TEHUANA FORMAL DRESS WITH FLORAL PATTERN, RED

TOP: huipil dress in red satin, with floral embroidery with cotton thread on crochet.

BOTTOM: crochet-embroidered skirt with white pleated lace flounce. It has an underskirt to give volume.

ACCESSORIES: handmade floral headgear, mantilla woven with traditional loom, and typical braided bronze necklace.

RELEVANT DETAILS: the embroidery is characterized by different shades of colors. Up to 10 different shades are used for each petal or branch: the higher the number of shades used, the higher the social status of the person wearing the dress.

Frida wore this type of dress in several of her works, in which red represented love, passion and blood. Among them, “Árbol de la esperanza, mantente firme”, “El abrazo de amor del Universo, la Tierra, Diego, yo y el Sr. Xolotl”, “Autorretrato en una flor del sol” and “Autorretrato con Stalin”.
