Alien III egg
It goes without saying that Giger built the egg from which the alien emerges. He used a range of modelling materials and even real animal meat mixed with slime, to make it look as “realistic” as possible. The alien egg is a fleshy object about a metre high, with four lobes at the top like petals. They open up like a flower and release the famous parasitic facehugger as soon as a potential host approaches.
Giger originally pictured the egg with an opening formed by just two lobes, as shown here. However, the producers at 20th Century Fox thought that the clear reference to female genitalia was indecent and forced the artist to double the number of lobes on his egg.
